High School Small Groups- Fall 2020

Please choose from one small group to attend for the fall. These groups will all meet in person, with a capacity restriction. We will follow close guidelines to ensure everyone is safe and stays healthy. If this concerns you but you still want to be a part of a group, email us at youth@myersparkpres.org. Cost is $20 per person, to cover the costs of materials. Please see below for small group descriptions:

WONDER:  Sunday 7pm
Engage weekly in creative practices, playfulness, prayer and bible study to find joy in God. This small group will pay attention to childlike characteristics that have power to reshape us, including art, imagination, the ability to live in the present and delight.  Each week we will work on a faith practice that engages all our senses and helps us live a new spiritual life that embraces the WONDER that God intends.

POP (People of PRAYER): Sunday, 7pm
Prayer can be as simple as these three words, Help, thanks or wow. We do not have to make it hard, complex or beyond our reach.  Explore ancient prayer practices, biblical foundations of prayer and create a prayer book for your personal use.

When Things Fall Apart: Monday, 7:30 pm
Things are always in transition. The in-between times are the places where we can grow, stretch and discover more of ourselves. Pema Chodron’s book When Things Fall Apart, Heart advice for Difficult times will be only a guide for this small group. We will seek to build resources and a resilience for whatever the days ahead may hold. We will use our experience from this time where we have come awake to discover our identity in Christ.

REBELS AND REFORMERS: Wednesday, 7:30 pm
Follow the lives of innovative, non-conformist theologians who helped define the radical counter cultural movement known as the reformation but also rebels and reformers of today.  Through bible study, discussion and exploration of these rebels we will uncover ways we can be the church that is “reformed and always reforming.”  Throughout this fall, we will make a quote book and these remarkable leaders show us through their audacious actions and fearless words that the pursuit of spiritual awakening must ultimately be a rebellion against the very foundations of suffering in the world.

Working Together: Anti-Racism: Wednesdays 7 pm
For 11th and 12th graders only. Meet at the Grier Heights Community Center and dinner will be included.
